Research Organization: The Wind Energy Institute of
Canada (WEICan)
Location: North Cape, Prince Edward Island,
Canada
About WEICan:
The Wind Energy Institute of Canada
(WEICan) is a non-profit organization founded in 1981, dedicated to advancing
wind energy across Canada through research, testing, innovation, and
collaboration. Located on Canada's east coast in North Cape, our institute
benefits from an ideal wind research setting, with extensive water exposure,
typical wind speeds of 8.9 m/s at 80 m, and frequent icing occurrences
annually.
Our state-of-the-art laboratory is equipped
with cutting-edge facilities, including a 10 MW Wind R&D Park, 223 kWh of
energy storage, 109 kW of bifacial and monofacial PV, meteorological towers,
and a small wind test bed. This infrastructure allows us to accumulate a wealth
of data and nurture a team of experts, enabling us to provide practical opportunities
for government agencies, private/public sector businesses, and academic
institutions to explore, demonstrate, test, and validate wind energy
technologies and concepts.
