Empowering Wind Energy Innovation through Collaboration

IEA Wind Task 46: Erosion of Wind Turbine Blades

IEA Wind Task 46 is an international research collaboration focused on the erosion of wind turbine blades, specifically addressing Leading Edge Erosion (LEE), which significantly reduces blade lifespan and energy output. The project unites industry and academic experts to develop standardized, durable, and affordable solutions for this issue.

In this Task, WEICan contributes by leveraging the Wind R&D Park to provide field data and expertise through monitoring site conditions (precipitation, icing), modeling annual energy production (AEP) loss, standardizing damage reports, researching “erosion safe-mode” operations to minimize damage during severe weather, and testing LEE performance loss models.
