As a not-for-profit, WEICan is is frequently enlisted by various sectors including government agencies, private and public enterprises, as well as academic institutions, to contribute our specialized knowledge and insights towards the development of policies and programs. Our expertise has not only been recognized domestically but has also been showcased on the international stage, where we have had the honor of representing the Canadian government as an authoritative voice in our industry at global events. Also offered is a Visiting Professor and Peer Review Program (VPPP) that allows for job shadowing at all levels of the organizations, internships, co-op placements, peer review of papers, etc. The VPPP is designed for professionals who are beginning their careers and are seeking to gain more experience, or mid-level professionals who find themselves with newly added job responsibilities. The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) works to create opportunities for economic growth in Atlantic Canada by helping businesses become more competitive, innovative and productive, by working with diverse communities to develop and diversify local economies, and by championing the strengths of Atlantic Canada.

ACOA provided funding for the transformation of the Atlantic Wind Test Site into the Wind Energy Institute of Canada in 2005. In 2019 ACOA provided funding for WEICan’s PV solar and battery infrastructure.

The Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA) is the voice of Canada’s wind energy, solar energy, and energy storage industries, actively promoting the responsible and sustainable growth of these energy solutions. A national non-profit association, CanREA is Canada’s leading source of information on wind energy, solar energy, and energy storage’s social, economic, health and environmental benefits for Canadian communities and provincial economies.

The Wind Energy Institute of Canada is an active participant in the member group, CanREA, and works to bridge the gap between industry and academia.

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) seeks to enhance the responsible development and use of Canada’s natural resources and the competitiveness of Canada’s natural resources products.

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) awarded the Institute with 12 Million dollars in 2010 for the creation of their Wind R&D Park through the Clean Energy Fund. Additionally, Natural Resources Canada provided core funding for the Atlantic Wind Test Site which was the precursor to the Institute from 1981 to 2007. Now the Institute works with NRCan on smaller projects such as Clean Energy Dialogues to promote Canadian-American collaboration in wind energy and energy storage demonstrations.

Nergica is a centre of applied research that supports innovation in the renewable energy industry through research, technical assistance, technology transfer and technical support for businesses and communities. Nergica consists of an accomplished expert team, unique research infrastructures installed in a natural environment and unavailable elsewhere in Canada, and custom services that take into account the challenges and imperatives inherent in each of the links of the innovation chain.

Nergica is an official college centre for technology transfer (CCTT) and is affiliated with the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles.

The Prince Edward Island Energy Corporation (PEIEC) is responsible for pursuing and promoting the development of energy systems and the generation, production, transmission and distribution of energy, in all its forms, on an economic and efficient basis. The PEIEC is a crown corporation which owns 73 MW of wind power on PEI.

The Institute and the PEIEC worked together to develop multiple wind farms and have worked together on multiple projects. The Atlantic Wind Test Site, the precursor to the Wind Energy Institute of Canada received some of its operational funding from the PEIEC.
