Carl Doucette, Wind Turbine Technician, is retiring after 26 years of service at the Wind Energy Institute of Canada (WEICan, formerly Atlantic Wind Test Site (AWTS)).

On Friday, December 19th WEICan celebrated Carl’s lengthy tenure with an Open House at WEICan followed by dinner at Stompin’ Tom’s, welcoming friends and former coworkers of Carl’s.

Since joining WEICan over two and a half decades ago, Carl has been at the forefront of Canada’s renewable energy evolution. His journey is a reflection of the industry itself—starting when wind power was a burgeoning field and helping it grow into the vital energy source it is today.

Carl’s expertise has spanned every scale of wind technology, from small wind to utility-scale large wind turbines. He also worked on projects bringing renewable energy to remote communities in Northern Canada.

At WEICan, Carl has been more than just a technician or a project lead; he has been a mentor, a problem solver, and a friend. From the installation of leading-edge protection on blades to the setup of training towers for the next generation of technicians, Carl’s handprints are all over our R&D park.

Carl, thank you for your tireless work, your passion for renewables, and the 26 years of memories. We wish you a retirement filled with the same steady winds and bright horizons you helped create for so many others.
