Heather Norton

Renewable Energy Systems Researcher (EIT)

Heather Norton joined the staff at WEICan in June of 2024. She participates in a variety of applied research projects related to wind systems.

Prior to working at WEICan, Heather obtained her B.Sc.Eng. in Engineering Physics from Queen’s University and her M.Phil. in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge. She is currently completing her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering as part of the Institute for Integrated Energy Systems at the University of Victoria, with a thesis that focuses on the optimisation of wind-powered carbon dioxide removal systems.

Heather also spent 7 years working on the research and development of metocean risk management and sustainability software. During that time, she completed industrial research projects on the optimisation of offshore wind power and on climate change adaptation for the ports and harbours industry.

After many years of modelling wind energy systems from afar, Heather is looking forward to working closely with real turbines for the advancement of wind energy in Canada.
