WEICan and BerMc Controls Inc. Sign Contract for “Testing Leading to Certification” for their 30kW Wind Turbine

November 5, 2010

WEICan and BerMc Controls Inc. are pleased to announce the signing of a contract for testing leading to certification for BerMc’s HC-30Kw wind turbine. With delivery expected by the end of 2010, to WEICan’s North Cape site, both companies are looking forward to collaborating on the testing program. WEICan will conduct tests for power performance, duration, safety, and acoustics emissions in accordance with IEC 61400-2: Design Requirements for Small Wind Turbines and American Wind Energy Association Small Wind Turbine Performance and Safety Standard for certification by the Small Wind Certification Council (SWCC).

BerMc Controls Inc. is located in Prince Edward Island and has been providing electrical and control services to its clients for the past eight years. Over the past four years the company has been actively involved in the small wind turbine industry in PEI and has the experience required to develop control systems for the small wind industry. The extensive research and development in this field has resulted in a genuine understanding of the complexity of wind power production. The principal partners have logged more than 100,000 international miles in this short period in order to understand the latest turbine technologies and producers around the world. These experiences have been integral in molding the business to its present day model. BerMc is proud to cooperate with its suppliers to integrate a complete 30kw turbine package utilizing their own designed and produced control system along with the Huaying Wind Generator, SMA(USA) inverters, and Magnum Piering foundation system. BerMc also integrates 2kw, 5kw and 10kw variable pitch turbines using the same suppliers.

The Wind Energy Institute of Canada (WEICan) is a not for profit independent research and testing institute which is mandated to promote the development of wind energy across Canada and has been doing just that since 1981. It's location at North Cape with 300 degree exposure to the Gulf of St. Lawrence is unique in Canada and offers: average wind speed of 8.2 m/s at 50m height and low turbulence; a highly corrosive harsh marine environment; and icing events during winter months.
