Research project between SûGen and WEICan moves to the next phase
June 14, 2010
The Wind Energy Institute of Canada (WEICan), Canada's leading wind energy research and testing facility, is pleased to announce the beginning of their testing and research project with SûGen Research Inc. (SûGen). SûGen is based in Cheticamp, Nova Scotia, Canada, and through their innovative research, SûGen strives to be a catalyst for economic development on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, by researching, testing, and distributing products that are suited for a large range of winds regimes.
WEICan has provided technical, engineering, and project management services to assist in the design, installation and performance testing of the Gual Industries GSE4 vertical axis wind turbine which could produce power at very high winds speeds. Collaborating, SûGen and WEICan staff assembled the wind turbine at WEICan's North Cape site during the week of June 7th and it will become operational later this month. The wind turbine will be tested for a short duration at WEICan's facility. Upon verification of operation the SûGen VAWT will be disassembled and then installed at a testing site location in Grand Etang, Nova Scotia for a one year period.

"After two years of preparation, SûGen is pleased to announce the initiation of the project. The skills, expertise and knowledge of the WEICan staff and the availability of services on site and from local businesses were key aspects to making this start-up a success. Heather Davis, President, SûGen Research Inc."
