WEICan & Zephyr Corporation Install and Commission the Zephyr Airdolphin Z1000 Small Wind Turbine
February 10, 2010
Staff from Zephyr Corporation, Mr. Chikashige - Engineer from Zephyr Corp., Derek Tamura - Engineer from American Zephyr, Hiroto-Ito - Project Manager from Zephyr Corp.(right) along with John O'Donnell - COO of American Zephyr arrived at the Wind Energy Institute of Canada (WEICan), Canada's leading wind energy research and testing facility, on February 1st to assist WEICan personal in the installation of their Zephyr Airdolphin GTO, Z-1000-250 small wind turbine. The Z-1000-250 will undergo type testing leading to certification, at WEICan's North Cape site. The testing will be done to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) standard for certification under the Small Wind Certification Council (SWCC).
WEI-Can & Zephyr staff attach the turbine to the tower.
The Airdolphin, an ultra-light turbine rated 1.1kW is the result of a joint industry-government-academia initiative in Japan, it combines state-of-the-art technology with Japanese craftsmanship.
The temperature during the install of the wind turbine on the tower was -37C with the wind chill, and all staff were excited to get the Z-1000-250 installed regardless of the temperature. The wind turbine was commissioned on February 17, 2010. Data collection is underway and reports will be issued for tests as they are completed.
