WEICan speaks at the annual conference of the Sustainable Electricity Association in Auckland, New Zealand
21-November-2007
The Sustainable Energy Association of New Zealand (SEANZ) is the industry association that represents the interests of all stakeholders of the renewable electricity generation industry for small scale applications encompassing photovoltaic (PV), solar, small-wind turbines (up to 100kW) and small-hydro up to 10MW.
James Glennie, Director of Business Development, gave a presentation which touched on four areas;
- An overview of the North American electricity market
- An introduction to WEICan
- Global energy trends, hydrocarbon price paths and implications for renewables
- North American Small Wind Certification and the Small Wind Certification Corporation
Following this presentation there was a lively Q&A session followed by an equally lively annual dinner and awards presentation.
The opportunity to present at this conference was of particular interest to WEICan. It assisted us greatly in expanding our international network to New Zealand, a country which shares many attributes with Canada. Not least of these is a very high level of hydro penetration in the electricity generation mix in addition to significant numbers of remote and islanded communities that could benefit significantly from the application of Distributed Generation (DG).
During our visit we met with a number of proponents of several exciting new wind-related ventures. From these meetings we believe we have planted the seeds of what we fully expect will be fruitful long-term RD&D collaborative agreements.
