Summary results of proposals received from small wind manufacturers requesting WEICan assistance in Type Testing

07-November-2007
On the 14 August WEICan announced that it had allocated $250,000 for Type Testing of small wind turbines. At the time it was noted that the money would be made available to cover the costs incurred by WEICan as a result of undertaking Type Testing work for the successful applicants. Type Tests will be conducted in accordance with the (yet to be finalised) North American small wind standard.

Details of the RFP were announced by WEICan on the 26 September and the closing date for submissions was 31 October.

At the closing date a wide range of quality submissions was received and subsequently analysed. WEICan has decided that a total of 9 applicant companies merit more detailed attention and negotiations have already commenced with the parties concerned.

The 9 companies submitted proposals for a total of 12 turbines. The turbines involved range in output capacities from 0.4 – 66kW. The turbines are from a variety of countries, half were from Canadian manufacturers. A technical review of the applications is under way and detailed negotiations will begin with the parties who have submitted the top ranked applications. Tentative plans are that the Type Testing programme will begin on a staged basis in early 2008.
