Inaugural meeting of Canadian Wind Interconnection Working Group.
09-Jun-2006.
The inaugural meeting of the CWIWG was held today in Toronto. The objectives were twofold;
1) Establish a mandate and work plan for the Working Group. The CWIWG's first task was to outline its mandate and establish a work plan going forward. Will CWIWG's role be primarily co-ordination? Will the group take a proactive approach towards harmonizing grid codes? How will it interact with US bodies such as NERC and FERC? Will it address wind integration issues? How will the group's activities be supported? How often will it meet?
2) Provide a networking forum for participants. In the absence of a 'FERC-like' national body it is difficult for parties involved in wind interconnection to learn about the activities of their counterparts in other jurisdictions. This meeting was intended as an opportunity for participants to inform others of their work and to learn of related activities elsewhere.
