Fred O'Brien
President and Chief Executive Officer,
Maritime Electric Company, Charlottetown (PE)

Mr. O'Brien is a native of Prince Edward Island. He received his Masters Business Administration from Queen's University in 1999 and a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia in 1984.

Since 1988, Mr. O'Brien has contributed to Maritime Electric's success in various capacities. Prior to his appointment as President and CEO of Maritime Electric, he was Vice President, Customer Service from 2005 to 2006, following a period as Vice President, Operations with Fortis Ontario Inc., a sister Company to Maritime Electric, from 1998 to 2005. From 1988 to 1998, Mr. O'Brien held various engineering, supervisory and managerial positions within Maritime Electric culminating in the posting as Manager, Engineering.

Mr. O'Brien is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of PEI. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of Maritime Electric, Newfoundland Power and the Canadian Electricity Association and is a member of the PEI Junior Achievement Board of Governors and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital's Capital Campaign Cabinet. He is also a past member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Fort Erie Chamber of Commerce in Fort Erie, Ontario and a past member of the Board of Directors of Rideau St. Lawrence, an electricity utility in Prescott, Ontario. Maritime Electric owns and operates a fully integrated electrical system providing for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity throughout Prince Edward Island. Maritime Electric is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortis Inc.
